Meet The Team: Hogan Welch

Hogan Welch, Field Robotics Engineer

Meet Hogan Welch: Field Robotics Engineer, Data Whiz, and Pickleball Enthusiast

Hogan Welch stepped into the world of Slip Robotics just over a year ago, and in that time, he’s been making things move. As a field robotics engineer, Hogan is all about keeping things running smoothly—whether it’s ensuring the SlipBots are at peak performance, wrangling data, or, occasionally, handling surprise encounters with wildlife (more on that later).

When Hogan’s in the office, he’s often knee-deep in data—analyzing motor performance, keeping an eye on critical systems, and making sure the SlipBots are always at the top of their game. Think of him as the robotics world’s pit crew chief, fine-tuning each bot before they hit the warehouse floor. But Hogan isn’t just solving today’s issues. He’s working on optimizing and standardizing support processes so that when the team does encounter a problem they’ve seen before, it can be resolved faster than you can say “reboot.” This approach keeps everything more efficient, saving engineers from going down the rabbit hole of details every time something pops up, and ensuring smoother operations all around.

On days when he’s not behind a desk, Hogan’s out in the field, making sure SlipBots are performing like champs at customer sites. If a robot needs some on-site love, Hogan’s there to diagnose and get it back on track. While most of his work is high-tech and data-driven, sometimes the biggest obstacles are unexpected—like that one time when a robot wouldn’t move due to a... spider. Yep, a spider and its cobweb had set up camp in the robot’s LIDAR sensor, fooling it into thinking there was an obstacle. Who knew SlipBots had to contend with nature too? Hogan found the little culprit, removed the web, and sent the bot back to work. Problem solved, spider evicted.

One of the things Hogan is most excited about is Slip Robotics' upcoming heavier payload robot—a project that’s sure to make a big impact with customers. He’s looking forward to playing a key role in the rollout and making sure this new robot meets the high standards Slip is known for.

Outside of work, Hogan’s life is just as action-packed. Having grown up on a golf course, he’s no stranger to the greens, and when he’s not hitting golf balls, he’s smashing pickleballs with his friends from Georgia Tech. There’s a friendly rivalry brewing with some of his coworkers, and he’s itching to finally take on Slip teammates like Christian and Matt. And when Hogan’s not swinging a club or paddle, you can find him cheering on his hometown Kansas City Chiefs. For those wondering what to watch next, Hogan highly recommends The Bear. It’s intense, much like diagnosing a rogue SlipBot, but without the spiders.

In short, Hogan is a robotics wizard with a passion for solving problems—and a good pickleball game. Stay tuned, because this guy’s just getting started.
